About Us

We are a fully registered Royal Yachting Association  (RYA) Training Centre and operate out of an AMSA accredited commercial vessel - Sirens' Song. We are a one man band with Jason doing all the teaching and admin for Tasman Adventures. We offer RYA Cruising Scheme qualifications (Competent Crew, Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper, Yachtmaster (Coastal and Offshore)) as well as RYA shore based courses (Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Theory, Yachtmaster Ocean and Diesel Engine Maintenance).

We also teach VHF radio courses and you can get your SROCP radio license through us if you like.

We deliver courses in the spectacular surroundings of Tasmania. This is a challenging cruising ground that provides the best possible preparation for all your future adventures.

We deliver training to a maximum of 2 students at a time. We believe that your learning experience should be based in practice and should always be fun!

Sirens' Song is a proven ocean crossing sailing vessel that is permanently ready to cross oceans. You'll see how an ocean going vessel should be set up and managed.

Jason has been teaching the RYA syllabus for more than 25 years and he is enthusiastic and full of energy. He understand how to teach you in a way that will maximise your enjoyment and your learning. Jason has 2 post-graduate degrees in teaching and learning, and this is evident in his approach to teaching.

Our Skipper - Jason Cummings

Jason has been sailing for more than 25 years and is an RYA Yachtmaster Examiner, RYA Cruising Instructor Trainer and holds a Yachtmaster Ocean (Commercially Endorsed) certificate as well as an RYA Diesel Instructor Certificate. Jason is also an Australian Sailing Safety and Sea Survival Instructor.

With over 80,000 nm logged, Jason has sailed across the Atlantic Ocean twice, the Pacific Ocean, the Bay of Biscay twice, the Tasman Sea twice (and single handed) and around both the islands of New Zealand single handed.  He loves cruising to cold places with small populations and he enjoys spending time on boats with friends (both experienced and novice, old and new).

Jason wants everyone to have adventures, to enjoy the sea and the places it leads, and he wants everyone to be as safe as possible whilst they are enjoying their adventures.

Our boat - Sirens' Song

Sirens' Song has been plying the ocean waves since 1983. She was built with care and attention in Massachusetts at the Cape Dory factory in Taunton. She came from the pen of Carl Alberg and is a Cape Dory 330.

Jason and Alan sailed her across the Pacific from Santa Barbara in 2010. After a brief stay up in Queensland, she migrated down to Clareville in Pittwater. In 2015, she circumnavigated both Islands of New Zealand with Jason on board and brought him back safely to Australia after more than 5000 miles with just each other for company.

Sirens' Song is now registered with AMSA for commercial use with Tasman Adventures and has moved down to Hobart for the more adventurous cruising ground. Sirens' Song wants to look after people in rough seas and teach them the pleasures that a long keeled, cutter rigged cruiser can offer!

Sirens’ Song Interior

Accomodation

Sirens' Song is a small capable ocean cruiser fitted out in varnished teak below. All the workmanship is to the highest quality and she is a gorgeous boat to live in.

However, accomodation is compact. There's a double bed up the front (forepeak) and a tall single narrow bunk in the saloon with a small double. There's a shared bathroom and a two burner metho stove with oven in the galley. She has a diesel heater built in, a 200L fridge and hot water for washing. There is 200L of fresh water on board and this does not stretch to a shower each day for everybody.

Sirens' Song is a compact and neat little boat that is ideal for adventurous souls. She is a gorgeous and functional ocean going boat but she is not a luxury yacht!
